This past weekend the Josey Ranch welcomed 72 students from 9 different states for their second clinic of 2023.
The adult only Clinic, open to any rider over the age of 21, was made to give adults a chance to work on their barrel racing without any distractions.
Adult Clinic students spent the weekend on horses in the three Josey arenas. Martha Josey and her team of highly qualified barrel racing instructors mentored students on the pattern, working on horsemanship, consistency in slow work, and confidence in their barrel racing.
“When we decided to schedule the first adult only clinic a few years ago we were thrilled to see the excitement towards this clinic,” exclaimed owner Martha Josey. “Since then it has become a very popular event that we look forward to every year. We love having the adult clinic because we have so many returning students as well as students making their first trip to the Ranch.”
With three different arenas and demonstrations around the ranch, barrel racing students learned about winning techniques, slow work drills, and proper equipment. After 2 days of training, the students set out to compete in their final runs on Sunday afternoon after attending Cowboy Church.
Sunday afternoon brought improvement across the board as students knocked multiple seconds off their runs. The race was run in a 4D format allowing students the chance to improve their original times from their first timed runs Friday night.
Amanda Jordan, took the clinic championship with her partner Tiktok and a final run time of 16.857. The 2D winner was Dakota Underwood, running a 17.358. Following in the 3D was Julia Ardoin with an 17.807 and Tabitha Booher won the 4D with a 18.626. You can find the full clinic results here.
With the conclusion of the Adult Clinic, the Josey Ranch begins preparations for a full year. Their next event will be March 31- April 2 for the Spring I Clinic to be followed by 13 other clinics, schools, and races throughout the year.
